Pokemon has been a staple of pop culture with eight different generations and 890 pokemon to choose from. The interesting thing is the anime Doesn't change characters for each generation instead they decided to stay with the same guy. The story is based on Ash Ketchum a ten year old boy who has a dream of becoming a pokemon master. Together with his pikachu they travel each region to beat the league and become the pokemon champion. For the last 21 years that was the main premise of the show in each region. based on the generation his travel companions were the main characters of each new generation. the cool thing is that the anime gave them personalities as well.
Luckily in generation seven the boy achieved his goal and became the champion for the Alola Region ending his quest. Just as the generation eight came out the anime took a different turn. The show was dubbed Pokemon Journeys to continue Ash's story. This takes place after Ash comes home from Alola he gets invited to be a research fellow with a partner named Goh who helps him with his task. They travel to all eight regions encountering unexpected adventures.
In the show the two boys have different goals on their minds. Goh has a dream to catch Mew and every pokemon in existence. He's basically doing what people do in the games catching all those creatures. The difference is that the pokemon have different personalities and the kid bonds with them individually. Now that Ash completed his 20+ year goal he has establish a new one that can help him reach his dream. This time our anime Peter Pan plans to enter the world coronation series in order to beat Leon the undefeated world champion. As you all know Leon is the champion in the new pokemon games. This was a unique way to bring him into the anime.
The fun part is that this series is canon showing past events and characters from previous generations. This time Ash has an overpowered team with some of the generation favorites and the new ones from sword and shield. He can also stay in contact with his pokemon from previous series. There is also flashbacks to past events making it more nostalgic. The final part is how they handle the storylines from the game adding certain events like the darkest day. The thing that makes it unique is that Ash is no longer the main character anymore giving his partner more development.
In my opinion I think this series is great unpredictable and exciting specially to the people who grew up with the show. Since the anime's twenty fifth year approaches no one knows what will happen to this show. Journeys has a big year coming up with many surprises in store.
