Over the years Disney has brought us countless of movies from the classics to the renaissance to the present movies. Sometimes to get more audience Disney brings them to live action. Some of these work but others ruin the original movie. There are three basic ways that this can work or fail. The producers Portrayal, casting and change to see if the live action can surpass the original.
Let's start with the portrayal of the classic and see if it sticks to the events in the original movie. Usually when a movie gets adapted it follows the basic storylines. One of the best example would be the Lion King which mostly sticks to the original material. Most of the scenes are accurate and you can feel like the classic movie is reborn. Other times they try to add many unnecessary scenes that throws off the movie a little bit.
This brings me to the next topic the changes and side stories normally this would help but sometimes they ruin it. An example would be Mulan which changes the entire premise into a war story taking away key characters that made the original iconic. There are also good things that come out of change like new scenes giving character development and stand alone films like Maleficent that tell the story from a different point of view.
The Final part is the casting the characters. Since the original voice cast are mostly gone you have to find new people to fill in the void. Some of them come back others fit the role and the last ones destroy the character. In the Lion King remake James Jones voices Mufasa just like in the original. He sounds a bit slower but he still fits the role. Even a new portrayal can do well an example would be Will Smith's genie in Aladdin where he is funny and likable.
In the end the audience decide which movie is better the original or the live action. All these characters brought to life by the mouse house are perfect for one another. Even if the live action movies make a lot of money the original movies win. They may have big name actors like Emma Watson, Will Smith and Johnny Depp but even they won't bring the magic of the original tale.
