TV shows have entertained us for the longest time thanks to their content and story. Sometimes they get ruined over the years due to lack of creativity, continuation and reboots. Today I will explore this element with both animated and live action TV shows. I will exclude anime like Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z and save it for a future article.
The first element we will tackle is duration focusing on TV shows that have been airing over ten years. This usually happens when the producers get lazy and make generic changing the characters to fit the plot point and ruining their personality. An example would be Family Guy which got ruined due to sloppy writing and character personality change. An example would be Brian Giffin who went from being the voice of reason to a stereotypical jerk. The only improvement would be the baby who built a personality over the show's long run.
The second element is the change which involves adding new characters to the shows. This tactic can go both ways good and bad. The original shows that have no source material are tricky specially when you kill a character to introduce another. There's only one show that died because of this element. The Fairly Odd Parents suffered this fate and self destruction. This happened when the producers added two unnecessary characters that ruined the whole plot.
The final element is the most common in both animated and live action TV shows the reboot. This concept usually kills the TV show. It can happen when a TV show ends in two ways. One is the continuation effect which happens after the conclusion on the original show. Sometimes the sequel has some elements that can ruin the show in general. The other one is the restart or live action portrayal. The live action trick usually succeeds but the reboot can destroy it all. An example would be the popular Teen Titans show which had both concepts added to it. The original show was the whole package mature, funny and told a good story. The live action Titans took it to a new level with a mature theme and a better story. The cartoon reboot Teen Titans Go Killed the entire show with its toilet humor and changed characters. This was a slap in the face to older audiences and the death of a nostalgic show.
At the end of the day we look back at those elements and thank what went wrong. While some show survive and others get canceled its up to the producers to decide if they want money or a good comeback. Some producers try to make an effort and succeed and others just kill the shows.
