The super hero genre has been a part of pop culture since the 1940s with DC coming before Marvel. Even if they came out at the same time they affected media in the different ways. These days everyone talks more about Marvel due to its success in the big screen with the MCu and independent films. DC on the other hand isn't mentioned that much unless they talk about the big screen films. The obvious reason is because DC is mostly well known in the small screen. This involves animated TV shows and films that you can only watch on TV or a DC streaming service. They also have live action TV shows centered on underrated superheroes and some connect together for certain events. You can call it a parallel to the MCU so I'm going to go over them and explain them.
Let's start off with the animated TV shows that we grew up seeing. An example would be the Batman and Superman animated series that aired in the 90s. Those two shows had sequel dubbed The Justice League which brought the team together from both shows. Each hero voiced by the same actor that played them in the original show. At the same time the Teen Titans were adapted as an animated show as well. Right now the most mature one would be Young Justice this show tackled most of the comic books adaptations it even created its own Super villain organization. The trend keeps rolling with new animated shows premiering up to today.
DC has also produced several live action superhero shows telling different stories from the underrated heroes. The CW managed to create an entire universe of superheroes called the arrowverse featuring Green Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and many more. This even lead to the Crisis On Infinite Earths comic book event with a couple twists. The DC live action TV shows are just as effective as the Marvel cinematic universe.
The movies exceeded on the small screen covering comic book storylines or their own original story. They may be animated but most of them are mature including the DC Animated Universe film series. They all cover different comic book stories like Death Of Superman, Batman Hush and the unforgettable Flashpoint Paradox storyline. One the darkest would be Batman The Killing Joke which features one of the darkest DC storylines with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and Joker from the animated series.
This little secret shows that the DC universe has its own success in the media behind the scenes. Not many comic book fans know about this secret. If you love the comics feel free to check it out on TV or the DC streaming services. Join Batman, Superman and the rest of the DC heroes in new and hidden adventures that will blow you away.
