Anime has been around since the 80s and has sprouted all kinds of genres for its content. The shows it has featured up to now have had the generic Slice Of Life and Romance as the most mature. the community has also had Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Shounen as the most kid friendly and enjoyable series by far. What you didn't know was that there was a hidden genre that was recently created based on the plot of the series. This genre was called the Isekai genre and it surprised the public on how many shows it was related to. Isekai refers to being summoned or reincarnated into another world by death or god like power.
As scary as it sounds there have been popular series such as Sword Art Online and Re Zero that are generic and well known. One involves being trapped in a video game and the other is being able to come back from the dead. There have also been recent controversial stories like The Rising Of The Shield Hero and Jobless Reincarnation which have mature themes. To explain it better I will give you a short summary for each one.
Let's start out with the popular ones first on the line is Re Zero a really popular and interesting story. Subaru Natski a Japanese teenager gets hit by a car and wakes up in another world meeting new people and adjusting to his short life. There is a catch if he dies in that world he come back to life and has a do over of what lead to his death. Through the series he meets new people, falls in love and suffers to protect them. What is this power that allows him to experience things over and over again.
Sword Art Online is relevant if you like video games and play MMORPGs that's why it clicks with a lot of audiences. The story goes like this its 2022 in Japan and the technology is virtual meaning that you can play a video game virtually and feel like you're part of it with the technology linkin to your neural network. Kazuto Kirigaya is an amazing gamer and he along with ten thousand others has waited to play this RPG where everything comes to life. Suddenly he sees that the game doesn't have the logout button. The creator appears and tells them that the only way to leave the game is to beat the game and if you die in the game you lose your real life. Through the series the boy makes friends, falls in love and visits virtual worlds. This series dives into virtual reality technology and artificial intelligence explaining how it can affect us today.
Based on all those series the Isekai genre has been gaining popularity. Being sent to another world for some odd purpose can help a story. This can pop on unexpectedly in other anime like Digimon and much more. To me the best way to expose a series n any genre is by telling a good story with character development and a good plot. lately this genre keeps growing in the anime community and one day it will change that
community.
